1.1 hp @4000 rpm Serial number 303456
I believe this is the smallest Johnson ever produced. Its advertised weight is 17 lbs. The fuel tank is unusual in that it is a U-shaped brass tube. I acquired enough parts to put this motor together from several collectors in 1978. I first ran it at an antique meet in 1984. I have continued to run it at meets occasionally ever since.

2.5 hp @ 3800 RPM Serial #1004 Most of the motors produced, of this first year model, were equipped with a fuel tank that encircled the flywheel. A few early motors, including this one, were fitted with a "square" style tank similar to the tanks found on prior Thor engines.
I acquired this motor, in the condition shown, from another collector in 1986. I did get it to run but it seemed to have a carburation problem. It was set aside. I hope to get back to it in the near future and try to resolve the running problem and give it a bit of a clean up.

25 hp @ 5000 rpm Serial number 1016708
This is a nice original example of the largest motor Mercury built for the Western Auto Stores chain.
I purchased this motor in 1979 from a collector in Maryland. It came with a packet that included the original owners manual, price tag, bill of sale, and advertising literature. It was bought new by a friend of the MD collector. I did the necessary maintenance and first ran it in 1995 and have used it occasionally at antique meets since. I was fortunate to have this motor featured in the book Beautiful Outboards by Peter Hunn.
