parts motor. The powerhead is stuck. It is missing the rewind
and the tiller handle. Cowl was long ago repainted (no
decals). Has original electric starter (also stuck) and wires
that went to the junction box. Has original air intake
silencer and carb knobs. Lower unit feels and shifts ok and it
has a prop.

Complete powerhead and midsection, has compression on all
cylinders. There is damage to the hand rail of the lower
cowl. This engine was the highest horsepower available at the
time.

new coil, spark plugs, and fuel pump diaphragm about 10 years

plug. Waterpump was weak when last run. No prop or nut. |

little off the bottom of the skeg and a chip out of an edge of
a spray plate, and the steering seems tight. It is still white
but the paint is only fair. It has a nice emblem on the front
cowl.

Power head seems OK. The lower unit needs at least a pinion
gear, the retainer for the bearing carrier, shifting cam
follower, and prop mounting hardware. The pinion gear seemed
to be damaged from poor meshing. It likely will need the drive
shaft ball bearing as well.

from the factory painted 2 tone blue. It still has the factory

painted black and has some missing from the skeg. Seems
complete otherwise and mechanically sound.

start, long shaft parts motor. The powerhead is a 1970-71
Merc 400 with no compression on the bottom cylinder. It is
missing the top cowl and rewind starter, front and wraparound
cowls, and the charging system rectifier. The lower unit is
from a 1974 Merc 402 Ser. #3863671 long shaft and feels good
and shifts properly. It has a 3 blade aluminum prop on it.
This lower unit would also be correct for a 50hp of this
vintage. More

was the highest horsepower outboard of its time. Has a
broken harness support bracket on the lower cowl, the steering
is tight, a grip is broken off one thumb screw, and it has

cowl. Otherwise, seems complete, feels and shifts OK.

complete and OK. This powerhead is mounted on a midsection
from a 1961 Merc 350 Ser.#1445829. The midsection seems OK but
is missing the tilt pin. Since this is a mismatch, I am
willing to sell either the midsection or the powerhead
separately.

Ca.
1963 Mercury short shaft midsection with Outboard Jets jet
drive unit attached. The midsection has no clamp brackets or
shock absorbers. It has the serial number 1542898 on it. This
would be everything needed to convert a long shaft motor of
this vintage to a jet. The jet unit needs the short mid
section to work properly on a 20 inch transom. The clamp
brackets and shocks can be transferred over from the long
shaft prop unit you are replacing. This would bolt to 65 to
100 hp models 1961 to 1964. It appears to be in good
condition.

Mercury Mark 55E 40 hp short shaft, electric start with
alternator Ser. # 982844. Has seal on powerhead. It is
missing the hooks for the wraparound cowl. Otherwise, it
seems complete, shifts properly, and looks pretty good. My
mechanic, some years ago, checked it for compression and
internal loosness and found it OK. He worked on the mag to
get spark and test ran it. He felt it sounded excessively
noisy and suspected excessive piston clearance.
